Location - Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh ..Posted on 15 Feb 2012
Hyderabad: The new Medical Education Minister Kondru Murali has succeeded in tackling the first major issue he faced, after his induction in the state cabinet. He  held a meeting with the Jr. Doctors starting from 11 pm on Tuesday to 5 am on Wednesday and succeeded in convincing the medical students of the need to call of their 50-day old strike.

Murali told the media that the medicos were cooperative and this understanding on their part, helped resolve the issue. On the part of the government, he said it had conceded all their demands excepting the stipend, which he said would be reviewed in April 2012.

According to the agreement reached, Jr. Doctors started attending to their regular duties including attending to emergency cases, from the morning of Wednesday.

A leader of the Junior Doctors' Association told reporters after the talks.
"The minister gave us an assurance of hiking the stipend from April 2012. We were flexible on the issue of increasing the stipend, but we stressed on improving the infrastructure in hospitals in the interest of public health".

The Jr. Doctors have adopted flexibility on their main demand of hike in their stipends. The government has agreed to consider revision in April 2012. On the condition that all doctors after graduation should serve in the rural areas for 3 years, the government has agreed to constitute a committee giving representation to 3 Jr. Doctors in it, to fix guidelines.

The committee would submit its report by April 2012. On the demand of improvement of infrastructure in government hospitals, the government has agreed to release Rs. 65 cr. sanctioned earlier, within 4 months. Likewise, the minister has also agreed to set apart 20 percent of the revolving fund of the Arogya Sri scheme, for improvement of amenities and acquiring latest medical equipment for government hospitals.

The medicos had begun their agitation about a month ago over 13 demands. They also boycotted emergency services in the last few days as part of their agitation.

They had held talks with the government several times earlier, which had failed to resolve the issue.
